Woe to the unjust!

After a while the web was left out by us, I'm back to write. This time is about the unjust and discriminatory act of many of us. Beware, as Allah S.W.T expressly stated in the Quran,

Allah swt said,

وَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَٰفِلًا عَمَّا يَعۡمَلُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَۚ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ لِيَوۡمٖ تَشۡخَصُ فِيهِ ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرُ

“And do not think that Allah is ignorant of what the unrighteous do. Verily, Allah will delay them until the day when their eyes are opened.” (QS.Ibrahim:42)

ٱلۡيَوۡمَ تُجۡزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡۚ لَا ظُلۡمَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

“Today every soul is rewarded according to what it has done. No one was harmed today. Indeed, Allah is very quick in His calculations.” (QS.Ghafir:17) 

But, there are still people, especially muslim whom choose to do unjust and telling lies. And Allah S.W.T has clearly said that these people will definitely be punished.

From Abu Hurairah RA, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: "Whoever commits (committing) cruelty to his brother, let him free himself from that (forgiveness) because indeed (on the Day of Judgment) the dinar and dirham will not avail anything, before his kindness was taken for his brother (to compensate for the injustice done). If he has no good, then his brother's evil will be taken away and thrown upon him. ”(Hadith of al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 6534)

Matan hadith :

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ مَظْلِمَةٌ لِأَخِيهِ فَلْيَتَحَلَّلْهُ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ ثَمَّ دِينَارٌ وَلَا دِرْهَمٌ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يُؤْخَذَ لِأَخِيهِ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ حَسَنَاتٌ أُخِذَ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَخِيهِ فَطُرِحَتْ عَلَيْهِ.

Allah has warned to those being unjust, liar, and slandering (being hypocritical)
From Abu Sa'id radhiyallahu 'anhu he said, Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said

إِنَّ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلَى اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَدْنَاهُمْ مِنْهُ مَجْلِسًا إِمَامٌ عَادِلٌ وَأَبْغَضَ النَّاسِ

إِلَى اللَّهِ وَأَبْعَدَهُمْ مِنْهُ مَجْلِسًا إِمَامٌ جَائِرٌ

“Sesungguhnya manusia yang paling dicintai oleh Allah pada hari kiamat dan paling dekat kedudukannya di sisi Allah adalah seorang pemimpin yang adil. Sedangkan orang yang paling dibenci oleh Allah dan paling jauh kedudukannya dari Allah adalah seorang pemimpin yang zalim.” (HR. Tirmidzi)

Rasulullah SAW said:

وَاتَّقِ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ حِجَابٌ

“Waspadailah doa orang yang terzalimi, karena tidak ada suatu penghalang pun antara ia dan Allah.” (HR Bukhari).

Is our education that bad???

Written by Hunter and published on Asia Sentinel online with the pictures of UM (Universiti Malaya) and with title "The Disgrace of Malaysian University Education" shall already create negative impact or justifications, especially to most people whom tend to read ONLY the title.

What actually the article trying to say?

The sub-headline stating that it was mismanagement, corruption and waste issue.

The article starts with the rank of Malaysian university in World University Ranking and QS ranking which saw many well-established university in Malaysia dropped. UniMap VC stated that the methods used to measure and rank was changed which was criticize by Hunter in the article ("Yet many universities within the top 100 Asian universities were established relatively recently. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, ranked 7th was established in 1980, Nanyang Technological University, ranked 10th was set up in 1981, and Pohang University of Science and Technology, ranked 11th, was established in 1986"- Hunter). One of the reason, stated by Hunter is that due to the universities in Malaysia restricted student from vocally express their thought and give 'Bersih 4' as one of the sample.

I agreed that no matter what methods used, if it works for many of the university, it shall works for minority too and it shall not be used as valid reason to accept the reality. However, I totally disagreed that our universities restricted student from vocally express their thought. There are many ways to express our thought. The most important when voice out your thought, is it shall be legally accepted. Even in Australia, where Hunter came from, you can't even have demonstration like 'Bersih' and the police there is even tougher than ours.

Corruption, Waste and Mismanagement

The article continues with Audit report on some local university. Hunter pointed out few university with  many issues such as incompetent staff, unwise spending, lack of business thinking, wrong selection of people, etc...

Hunter refers to Audit report in 2012. It might be true on the year it was released which it refers to previous years (or the same year of the audit being done). However, Hunter shall refers to recent audit report too, of which I believed that there are lots of improvement since then. And I agreed with Unimap VC on his statement that there are lots of works to do to improve and to solve many outstanding issues in the local university. And I urged not just Unimap VC, but to all VCs of Malaysian university, to get the RIGHT people in the team and increase the COMPETENCIES of your staff and lecturer. Build relationship with the industries and DO NOT limits to academy for the sake of not putting any stress on the student. Give them a challenge and not protecting them by not giving them chances to meet the real world because you afraid that they will get stress and therefore failed to move forward.

On last two paragraph, Hunter mentioned the academic issues and the dominant control by VC. On academic issue, of which he stated that many local university still lacking of research talent or research minded student. To be honest, I kind of agree with this statement. One of many sample, which I think relevant to the statement is a research on the effect of aurora to underground electricity. It may be something, but to majority of the world including Malaysia, it does not have any impact at all. Aurora only happens to few countries and we all knows that is has impact to magnetic fields of the earth when it happen. When I read the research, the first question I asked myself were, what is the expected result and what is the expected outcome? Just to prove it has impact, which we all know or to develop some protection mechanism from affecting the underground electric? What ever it was, I hope to see some usable or notable result/outcome which can be industrialize as the research was ain't cheap. Else, it will only validate Hunter's hypothesis as true. Nevertheless, there are research that I thought it is valuable not just Malaysia, but to the rest of the world, done in many local university. The only problem is the marketability as many of these research is done by academician without collaboration with industries. I believed that if University to partners with industry, it will bring the right values and impact to the community and universities.

On the dominant control of VC, I had to disagree with Hunter on this. It will not be the cause for disgrace of Malaysian education. Every leader has their own management style and every leader will only works with people that can work with them.

Is our education that bad

Back to my question. Is it that bad based on Hunter? It depends on the perspective the reader. To me, some of the statements are true and there are statements that I disagree with. Personally, Malaysian education is not that bad, but it do requires lots of improvement.

1. I agree entirely with you that building a great nation doesn’t only take brains, but as you said it sure does help.

2. However brains alone without a heart (feelings) can produce a monster.

3. Israel is undoubtedly a great nation, becoming great through the brains and the numerous achievements you have listed. Yes I have used Israeli originated products like Microsoft Windows and Pentium chips (made in Malaysia) by Intel, an American company.

4. In fact I owe my life ultimately to Israel because there must be something invented by Israelis in the numerous instruments used in heart surgery. However most of the products used were invented and produced by Japanese.

5. I am amazed at the number of Nobel Laureates Israel has produced. I admit we have not produced even one.

6. But when the brain is without a heart it does not care for the misery resulting from the products of the brain.

7. The atom bombs which killed 100,000 men, women, children and babies are the product of Israeli (Jewish) brain. Most of the diabolical weapons now being used to kill millions of people are also the creation of Israelis on Zionist Jews. The depleted uranium and phosphorous shells being used in Gaza are also the product of Israeli brains.

8. The current financial crisis which is destroying the economies of the U.S. Britain and in fact all the countries of the world is due to manipulations of banks, financial institutions and the monetary system by Jewish supporters of Israel.

9. The negation of the freedom of speech when it comes to the alleged killings of Jews in World War II are also inspired by Zionist Jews.

10. But worse of all is the seizure of Palestinian land to create the state of Israel. Not content with the area given to the Jews by the United Nations you have seized more Palestinian land, built settlements on many parts of Palestine, disallowed the use of roads built on Palestinian land to the Palestinians, erected your own check points at the borders of Palestine with Jordan and built your version of the Berlin Wall through Palestinian villages on land that is not part of Israel.

11. Before the creation of Israel, the Jews and Arabs in Palestine lived in peace. Historically Jews had always sought refuge in Muslim countries when the Europeans conducted pogroms against them. This only stopped after the U.S. offered asylum.

12. All the terrorism that we see today, whether state initiated or by irregulars, started after the U.S. backed Israel against Arab attempts to regain their land through conventional wars. Because they were outclassed in terms of weapons by the U.S, / Israel, alliance, then only did the Arabs resort to what is called terrorism. The Israeli response have always been with greater terrorism as is seen in Gaza.

13. I have asked an American what he would do if Texas was given to the Jews to create the state of Israel. He did not answer. But I believe he would fight to get back Texas, employing all the weapons at its disposal.

14. Yet had the United States been willing to create the nation of Israel in the lands under U.S. control or in the U.S. itself, there would be no terrorism in Palestine or in the Middle East. There would be no terrorism in America either because Israel would be wiped out by the U.S. forces. The world would remain peaceful.

15. The brutality committed by your forces in Gaza is out of all proportion to the puny rocket attacks by Hamas. That attack was the result of Israel and the U.S. failing to accept the results of a properly conducted election.

16. Hamas could only establish their Government in Gaza. But you blockaded Gaza, denying them food, medicine, power, fuel etc. If you had not done that I doubt that Hamas would fire rockets at you.

17. Malaysia is well aware that total boycott of Israel is not possible. We are in fact boycotting American products which is an even more impossible task. We would not be able to bring America or Israel down.

18. But what we aim to do is to demonstrate the disgust and the anger that we feel over the inhumanity of the brainy but primitive peoples of Israel and America.

19. You can collect Nobel prizes and other prizes but the world will look down upon you as very primitive people who robbed land through terror against perfidious British and subsequently used your control over the world’s greatest military power to oppress the people whom you had robbed.

20. You have nothing to be proud of, unless of course you take pride in being heartless, in being primitive brutes.

21. The only mitigating factor is the presence among Israelis of a small number who are ashamed of what you have done to the people of Gaza.

5 IMPORTANT LIFE LESSONS

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour.
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'
'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies.
'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.
They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.'
'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.'
Puff! She's gone.
'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep.. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and
the love of my life.'
Puff! He's gone.
'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 3

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.
A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'
The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 4

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'
'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who=2
0shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there..

Lesson 5

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field..
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your
friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep
your mouth shut!
